Hi all -
After reading in the ebay seller hints topic here about requiring paypal buyers have a confirmed address, I've got a question.
I have a verified paypal account, but my address shows as unconfirmed. Is this because I only have my paypal account tied to my bank account, and not to a credit card account? Do you have to have it tied to a credit card account to get a confirmed address? There have been lots of times I wanted to buy something, but couldn't because the seller was requiring a confirmed paypal address.

Linda,
Usually that is how you get your address confirmed - by having your account linked with a credit card. (Address you want shipped to and address with c.c. must match). I believe there are other ways to confirm your address with Paypal, but I think it involves faxing them lots and lots of info (some of which they have no business having IMHO).
The reason I now require a confirmed address with a Paypal payment is there are a lot of buyers out there that are now scamming sellers and saying they didn't receive their item when they really did. If I don't ship to a confirmed address and use Delivery Confirmation, then Paypal automatically sides with the buyer everytime. Doesn't matter what I say about the transaction.
I know that penalizes a lot of honest buyers out there, but I can't take the chance and lose my money and my merchandise.

But I am up the creek without a paddle if the credit card address and my shipping address have to match. They will if the seller uses the post office--but for UPS, or Fed Ex, they are different. They don't deliver mail to the houses here--I live in the boonies--so all my "regular" mail has a po box address. But UPS requires my street address.
And I don't know a solution to fixing that one.

Linda,
Unfortunately, I don't know a solution to that problem. I would say most sellers use USPS, but for the ones that don't - maybe you could email them before you bid and explain you have a P.O. box and ask if they would use the USPS to ship or accept your unconfirmed home address and go ahead and ship UPS.
I think, but I'm not 100% sure that you can add another confirmed address to your Paypal account (besides the one the matches the c.c.), but again it involves faxing Paypal all kinds of info.

Btw, this kind of seller info was just what I was looking for. I hadn't thought of being scammed, but I remember dh and I were very concerned initially.
Becca--I wonder if your credit card company has your physical address?? I'll bet that they do, and when you enter your shipping address (along with the PO for mailing), it will still come up as confirmed. I think that you can do that all on your account. I was having to mess with mine because I had my old address and had to get rid of it (because it was tied to an old credit card in there). Anyway, both old and new addresses were listed as confirmed.
If you check out your profile, you can look at all of that.

I have had buyers where their confirmed Paypal address listed both their PO box and street address. Apparently that is the way they had their address on file with the credit card company, and that way it came up confirmed.

My PO box is confirmed because it is my billing address. I have never confirmed my home address.
I get all my PayPal purchases shipped to my home address, which is listed with eBay. I have NEVER had a problem doing this.
